Jennifer Garner and Jennifer Lopez Maintain a Strong Relationship: How Ben Affleck’s Exes Have Connected Through Their Children (Exclusive)

Ben Affleck’s ex-wives, Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Garner, continue to maintain a strong friendship, according to a source who spoke with PEOPLE.

Lopez, 55, whose divorce from Affleck, her husband of two years, was finalized in January, and Garner, 52, are described as “friends” who regularly check in with each other.

“Jennifer Garner reaches out to Jennifer Lopez about her kids. Jennifer Lopez reaches out to Jennifer Garner about her kids. They’re friends,” the source explains. “They’ve really built a strong female support system and stay in communication.”

Garner was married to Affleck, 52, from 2005 to 2015, and they share three children: Violet, 19, Seraphina, 16, and Samuel, 13. Lopez, on the other hand, shares her 17-year-old twins, Max and Emme, with ex-husband Marc Anthony. Lopez and Affleck first began dating in 2002, got engaged, but split in 2004 before reuniting in 2021.

“We’re always pitting women against women, but in this case, that’s just not the truth,” the source adds, referring to the relationship between Lopez and Garner.

A separate source recently told PEOPLE that Affleck and Garner “have been on good terms for some time now and seem to enjoy chatting and spending time together when they’re with the kids.”

The former couple was recently spotted sharing a laugh at Samuel’s 13th birthday party on March 2. A source revealed that Affleck has seemed “extra giddy lately and much more affectionate” when spending time with Garner.

Affleck and Lopez finalized their divorce on January 6 and were declared legally single on February 21, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE. Both have remained busy with their careers: Lopez premiered her upcoming movie Kiss of the Spider Woman at the Sundance Film Festival in January, while Affleck debuted his new film The Accountant 2 at SXSW on March 8.

The first source also tells PEOPLE that Lopez “isn’t bothered” by the recent photos of Garner and Affleck sharing a hug at Samuel’s birthday party “at all.”

“People are reading into it in a way that’s creating drama where there is none,” the source adds.
