For Lady Gaga, there was a particular green flag she noticed when she first met her fiancé, Michael Polansky.

During a conversation on The Interview podcast with The New York Times on March 8, the “Abracadabra” singer shared the endearing quality that attracted her to the 46-year-old businessman.

“From the moment I met Michael, he had the warmest and kindest disposition of anyone I’d ever met in my life,” Gaga, 38, said. “Yes, he was impressive, but what stood out to me the most was how genuinely interested he was in learning about my family.”

During the conversation, the Mayhem singer became emotional and started to cry.

“What I’m trying to say is, I knew Michael was genuine because he wanted to be my friend,” Gaga shared. “He didn’t want to do the things others did. He wanted to take walks with me, and he took me rock climbing.”

She added that Polansky “inspired” her to “have more hope” regarding her pain condition.

“I guess I know Michael is genuine because he’s my friend,” Gaga said.

Ultimately, the “Bad Romance” singer expressed how “glad” she was to have found a true “friend” in Polansky.

“It was really hard not having that,” she said. “It’s not a good feeling to struggle with making friends. Being real friends with someone is special. You can sit in a room together without talking. You can take long walks and talk about your family. You can obsess over a new recipe and make it together.”

Gaga continued, “I don’t think friendship should be transactional, but I was surrounded by a lot of that. So meeting someone who wasn’t like that is a huge blessing. It’s a whole new world for me.”

The couple was first spotted publicly at a 2020 New Year’s Eve party in Las Vegas, where they were photographed kissing.

After a PDA-filled weekend in Miami for the Super Bowl that year, they made their relationship official.

In April 2024, Gaga sparked engagement rumors when she was seen wearing a large diamond ring on her finger.

Months later, the “Bad Romance” singer confirmed their engagement when she referred to Polansky as her “fiancé” at the Paris Olympics.

Before her performance on the March 8 episode of Saturday Night Live, Gaga sat down with Good Morning America’s Michael Strahan and explained why she was so upfront about marriage and kids when she first met Polansky.

“Michael flew to Vegas to see my show and take me on our first date. Before we even sat down, I asked, ‘Do you want marriage and kids?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, I do.’ I replied, ‘Okay, great, want some champagne?’ And he said, ‘Sure,'” she recalled.
