College Basketball Weekend Recap: Is Auburn Secured as a No. 1 Seed? Bubble Teams Face Challenges

We witnessed the intense in-state showdown between No. 1 and No. 2, where top-ranked Auburn went into a loud Coleman Coliseum and delivered a dominant win over Alabama.

It’s starting to feel like a trend: the Tigers face tough competition and keep delivering impressive performances. Week after week, they pile up high-profile victories, raising a crucial question: Has Auburn already locked up a No. 1 seed just four weeks before Selection Sunday?

Auburn was named the top overall seed in the selection committee’s top 16 reveal on Saturday, and their convincing win over the Crimson Tide only reinforced their standing. Now sitting at 23-2 and leading the SEC with an 11-2 record, they’ve managed to separate themselves from an already competitive conference.

That’s not all—the Tigers are on the verge of making history. Since the introduction of the NET rankings in 2018, the record for most Quad 1 wins in a regular season is 15, set by Kansas in 2022-23.

Auburn already has 14 and still has plenty of opportunities to add to that total.

With such an impressive resume, Auburn is practically a lock for a No. 1 seed come tournament time. No other team has built a body of work even close to theirs, so the Tigers can afford a few losses if anyone is able to take them down.

There’s still plenty of time for the bracket to change from now to March 16, but believe with complete certainty Auburn will be a top seed, and after winning the potential game of the season, it leads the top storylines from the past weekend of college basketball.
